A new career, a new start on the blog.

In the last few months I somehow managed to score a job with the local NPR affiliate station here in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is, quite literally, my dream job - one that I have wanted for decades! I am primarily the IT guy, but I still get to produce spots regularly - which is what I really love doing. I went from a college radio station that had an estimated 1200 or so listeners at any given time to one that has at least 50,000 listeners tuning in during every show!

I inherited a rather....messy...network - and am going to try to document my attempts at taming it and bringing it up to speed. It will be a lot of work, as this picture of the back of the server rack can attest:

It's been a lot of work so far, but a heck of a lot of fun as well - I honestly look forward to coming to work every morning - even when I need to be here by 4:45am in order to produce the Morning Edition spots!

Now back I go to work - All Things Considered needs some producin', y'all!

    I have a blogger friend who is an amateur ham radio operator and I thought it was so interesting to learn about it through her blog. I had no idea people did that but it sounded like so much fun. Now I see here that you do that as well. Interesting!
